So, why cycle?

 

But I have a car, so why would I want to cycle anyway?

 

• The roads are too dangerous
• I arrive at my destination sweaty and tired
• if it rains I'll get wet
• I've got no where to put my stuff
• I can't afford a bike and a car
• cycling's for kids and teenagers who can't drive a car
• I'm too old/unfit to cycle
• it takes too long

 

...and I'm sure there are loads of other reasons to just stick to the car: anyway, China and India pollute more with their industries than I'm ever going to save with the small amount my car makes so why should I bother?

 

Surely it would take lots of people to change to make even the slightest difference?

 

Yes, you are probably right, it would, so really we're all just wasting our time and we may as well continue happily doing what we like!

 

It's true that switching to a bike may, in itself, not save the Planet. But this is not the only reason to make a change.

 

• our example may encourage others
• we can improve our fitness and perhaps feel better
• our action can help to reduce the number of cars; create less parking demand, less noise, less pollution...
• we may find time to think and relax
• we could save money

 

...and we can make a small difference which, together with all the others, may go some way to making change.

 

We need to think about living more sustainably and not just continue to take, take take!

 

If we all do nothing, then nothing will change: if some of us do something, then something may change.
